Overcome Multiple Pain Points in Pipe Welding! Xinghong Optoelectronics Empowers Pipe Production Lines to Stably Deliver Premium Welds

24 Sep,2026

From September 21 to 24, Tube China 2026, the 12th China International Tube & Pipe Exhibition, was held at Shanghai New International Expo Centre. Xinghong Optoelectronics showcased its full lineup including the XH-ABMPR ring-core 3D dynamically adjustable intelligent laser welding head, XH-MPR ring-core adjustable intelligent welding head, HO ring-shaped laser beam welding head, HW dual-oscillation galvanometer welding head and HF hybrid welding head, as well as the HP high-power welding head at the exhibition. These products tackle real-world manufacturing hurdles such as deformation, spatter, porosity, undercut and inconsistent penetration that frequently emerge during mass production of precision welded tubes, thick-walled pipes and alloy pipe fittings. Leveraging the beam shaping capability built into these welding heads, Xinghong delivers laser welding solutions tailored specifically for the pipe sector, balancing reliable process performance and capital expenditure. The technology stabilizes weld quality consistency for laser pipe production lines and enables continuous output of high-quality pipe components.

1. Mass Production Bottlenecks: Uncertain Weld Quality Undermines Line Productivity

Demand in China’s pipe market keeps growing, with high-value products such as precision stainless steel welded tubes, thick-walled pipes for oil & gas transmission and aluminium alloy heat exchange fittings accounting for an expanding market share. In continuous production environments, poor finished-product yield rarely stems from insufficient laser power output. Instead, limited beam regulation on the optical end often fails to adapt to the highly variable working conditions of pipe processing, triggering unstable weld quality and dragging down overall line efficiency.

Pipe manufacturers face a host of practical challenges. Thin-walled pipes concentrate heat input during welding, which easily causes pipe deformation and excessive ovality; subsequent straightening and rework push up production costs. Thick-walled pipe butt joints suffer fluctuating penetration and inconsistent weld reinforcement. Welding highly reflective materials including stainless steel and aluminium alloy frequently creates porosity and undercut defects. For longitudinal welded tubes and circumferential pipe joints, wall thickness deviation and assembly gap errors of incoming workpieces are inevitable. Traditional welding heads feature fixed beam parameters and struggle to adapt to dynamic changes arising on the production floor.

2. Xinghong’s Solutions: Optimised for Continuous Production of Multiple Pipe Specifications

Solution 1: XH-ABMPR Series – Dual-Beam Ring-Core Adjustable Intelligent Welding

Breaking free from constraints of conventional 2D power distribution, the Xinghong XH-ABMPR upgrades beam shaping to 3D dynamic regulation. Four core parameters can be tuned independently, supporting continuous production for longitudinal welds, circumferential pipe joints and tube-to-plate connections.

  • Flexible ring-core power combination: The 1080nm ring beam and core beam can be proportioned freely. Compatible with various optical fibres, it rapidly configures energy allocation for carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium alloy and other pipe materials.
  • Independently adjustable ring-core spacing: The gap between the ring beam and central beam can be continuously adjusted within ±50 mm. It separately manages surface heat input and internal penetration to realise 3D spatial energy compensation, meeting divergent process requirements: preventing burn-through for thin walls and achieving deep penetration welding for thick walls.
  • Independently adjustable Z-axis focal length: Dynamic focus positioning adapts quickly to variations in incoming pipe wall thickness and assembly gaps, cutting downtime spent on process setup.
  • Active oscillation of central spot: While the outer ring beam remains stable, the central beam oscillates in a controlled manner to agitate the weld pool. This facilitates the escape of trapped gas within molten metal and helps form uniform, dependable pipe welds.

These four functions work in synergy, transforming the welding head from a static optical component that merely executes preset parameters into a beam-shaping platform capable of active, real-time intervention in welding processes.

  • Thin-walled pipe fabrication: The ring beam disperses heat input, lowering thermal deformation risks and reducing burn-through and sagging defects to guarantee dimensional consistency across mass-produced parts.
  • Thick-walled pipe butt welding: Energy delivery for surface and subsurface layers is controlled hierarchically, stabilising penetration and improving uniformity along the full weld length.
  • High-reflective alloy fittings such as aluminium alloy: The ring beam stabilises weld pool behaviour, while the oscillating central spot promotes gas evacuation, mitigating porosity defects during mass manufacturing.

3. On-Line Production Value: Balanced Process Performance and Cost for Pipe Welding

The XH-ABMPR, XH-MPR and HO ring beam series can be seamlessly integrated with laser longitudinal pipe mills, robotic circumferential welding workstations for pipe fittings, and complete tube-to-plate hybrid welding systems. Under matched process settings, they cover processing needs ranging from thin-walled precision tubing to medium & thick-wall industrial pipe fittings.

For continuous longitudinal welded tube production lines, dynamic beam regulation absorbs minor dimensional tolerances of incoming raw materials and reduces weld fluctuations, cutting downtime and scrap loss caused by process mismatch. When deployed with robotic pipe processing, the welding heads can work alongside weld tracking systems for circumferential butt joints and tube-to-plate connections of oil & gas pipelines, heat exchange fittings and sanitary tubing.

Furthermore, Xinghong’s solutions are compatible with mainstream laser sources available on the market. This lowers the entry barrier for intelligent upgrades of pipe production lines, granting manufacturers differentiated process capabilities exclusive to the pipe sector and paving the way for quality improvement without excessive capital investment.
